Aizawl 19th November 2021: Champhai Deputy Commissioner & Chairman, Zila Sainik Board (ZSB) Champhai Pi Maria C.T Zuali today inaugurated the newly renovated War Memorial at Champhai today.
The War Memorial, erected in 1997 was recently renovated through the joint efforts of the DC Champhai office and District Sainik Welfare & Resettlement Office, Champhai District. The memorial has names of 17 brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1st and 2nd World wars, and other wars that took place post independence.
The Deputy Commissioner Pi Maria C.T Zuali led floral tributes at the memorial, followed by Addl. District & Sessions Judge Pi Sylvie Z.Ralte, District Sainik Welfare & Resettlement Officer Maj John V.L Khawlhring, 8 Assam Rifles Champhai Commandant Maj. Sunny Tomar and DIPRO Dr. Lallawmkima.
At her inaugural address, the Deputy Commissioner paid respect to those who laid down their lives in service of the country, and appealed to all citizens to honour and remember their services, and also follow their example to be better citizens for the country. She also paid her respect to the ex-servicemen present at the function, and vowed to work in earnest for their welfare.
At present, Undivided Champhai District has 751 Ex-Servicemen members and 250 Ex-Servicemen Widows.
