Aizawl, the 22nd November 2021 : Sports & Youth Services Minister Pu Robert Romawia Royte today flagged off Leg 4 of the pan India Motorcycle Expedition organised by Border Roads Organization (BRO) as a part of the 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence Celebrations ‘Azaadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ from the precincts of Project Pushpak Headquarters, Thuampui, Aizawl in presence of Shri PN Yadav, Chief Engineer, Project Pushpak and other officers and personnel of Project Pushpak.
Flagging off Leg 4 of the Expedition which is expected to cover Aizawl to Kolkata route, the Minister expressed his admiration of the pioneering role played by BRO in nation building, especially in far flung and remote areas of the country. He highlighted the excellent services being rendered by BRO in connecting places/people in the country in general and Mizoram in particular. He also lauded the contributions of BRO particularly in the development and construction of roads and bridges in Mizoram before it became a fully fledged state. He appreciated BRO’s idea of spreading the messages of national integration and across the country through the expedition and wished the participants a fruitful and safe journey in their leg of the Expedition.
The flag off ceremony also included display of Cheraw – a Mizo cultural dance and felicitation of BRO ex-servicemen and widows in the state.
The Expedition organised under the stewardship of Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhury, VSM, DG Border Roads has taken the challenging task of a Pan India Motorcycle Expedition to cover approximately 20,000 kilometres in 75 days by ‘BRO Karamyogis’. The expedition was flagged off by the Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh on October 14th from Delhi. Since then the expedition has covered over 7000 kilometres through various cities as well as difficult terrain like Pang, Leh, Kargil, Srinagar, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Nathula, Guwahati, Tezpur, Itanagar, Pasighat, Doomdooma, Jorhat, Dimapur, Imphal etc. The expedition team reached Aizawl yesterday and proceeded to Kolkata today, after it was flagged off.
The members of the expedition will spread the achievements of BRO in nation building over the past six decades. They will also be spreading the message of peace, national integration and harmony towards achieving ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’ through several public interaction programmes/activities including Medical Camps, Swachh Bharat Initiatives, Road Safety Campaigns and visiting old age homes/orphanages.
