An Apex Board meeting (NLUP Apex Board) of the Government's flagship programme - NLUP was chaired by the Chief Minister Shri Lal Thanhawla on 10th May at the Chief Minister's Conference Hall.
Addressing the Board meeting, the Chief Minister expressed happiness about the manner in which NLUP is being implemented. He stated that Line Departments have been organizing trainings for the beneficiaries and even monitoring the progress of their selected trades on-site in some Districts. He added that such steps have instilled a sense of enthusiasm amongst the beneficiaries. He also expressed his happiness at the All Mizoram Farmers' Union who organized Awareness Campaigns about the flagship programme in various Districts and said that such actions speak about the positive commitment of the various stakeholders.
Shri Lal Thanhawla said that NLUP aims to bring development to the people of Mizoram and it is the primary duty of the beneficiaries to use the funds properly and correctly for the intended purpose as the Central Government is also closely monitoring the programme.
The Apex Board meeting discussed the further plan of action which included among others - the earmarking of funds and mode of selection of beneficiaries during the current financial year; engagement of a Consultancy Agency for monitoring in two NLUP Cluster Areas; changes to be incorporated in the NLUP Manual; the marketing of brooms and inclusion of tea growing as a trade under NLUP. The meeting decided to cover maximum number of beneficiaries under NLUP during the current financial year.
During the last financial year (2010 - 2011), 45,139 beneficiaries received assistance for NLUP.
