Aizawl, 29 May 2026: The Governing Body meeting of Zoram Medical College & Hospital (ZMC & H) was held today at the CM Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mr. Lalduhoma.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Vanlalthlana, Minister for School Education, Smt. Lalrinpuii, Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Ms. Baryl Vanneihsangi, MLA, along with other members of the Governing Body.
During the meeting, members discussed the improvement of the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation in medical colleges. At present, only one doctor is available in the department, who is also handling both clinical and faculty responsibilities. The Governing Body stressed the need for immediate strengthening of the department.
The meeting also reviewed the ongoing construction of the Critical Care Block, which is being built through CSR funding. Necessary equipment for the block is also expected to be procured shortly. Discussions were held on ensuring the effective utilization of the facility once operational.
Various proposals aimed at strengthening and upgrading ZMC & H, already submitted into MPLAN, were also reviewed. The Governing Body prepared a priority list for implementation of the projects, as it would not be feasible to undertake all projects simultaneously.
Over the past two years, 30 new cabins and 13 new ICU units have been added to ZMC & H. In addition, a large number of previously non-functional hospital beds have been repaired and made functional again. With a total capacity of 517 beds, ZMC & H has now become the largest hospital in Mizoram.
In October 2024, 10 new Post Graduate seats were introduced, and nine students are currently pursuing their studies. Recently, the third batch of MBBS students also successfully completed their course.
