Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga yesterday (10.10.2019) inaugurated a hostel for higher secondary school students at Lawipui, Aizawl. This hostel building was constructed through a joint effort of the School Education Department and the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) with a Rs. 520.48 lakhs sanction from the Ministry of DoNER. The management of the building was handed over to the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) today, on whose property the hostel was built.
The Chief Minister commended the efforts of the School Education Department and the CYMA in constructing the hostel building. Stressing the importance of human resource development for economic growth and development, the Chief Minister called for a united and renewed approach to fully utilize the various assets of the state.
The School Education Minister Pu Lalchhandama Ralte, who was the guest of honor alluded the joint effort of the CYMA and School Education Department, stating that the Memorandum of Understanding previously signed between the two of them has produced many favourable outcomes towards reformation of education in the state. The Minister further added that Mizoram needs "Education Revival" to ensure balanced socio-economic development.
Pu Robert Romawia Royte, Minister, Sports & Youth Services who was also invited to the inaugural programme expressing his happiness that the facility will provide much needed accomodation to students from outside Aizawl. Pu Vanlalruata, President, CYMA also spoke on the occasion.
The hostel for higher secondary school students was constructed by the Northeast Consultancy Services (NECS) with the School Education Department as nodal department. The construction was started on May 2016 and completed on April 2019. The building consists of two block with an auditorium, office, cafeteria, meeting room, dining hall, kitchen, guest room and staff quarters in Block A while Block B in comprised of triple and double bedded hostel rooms and a library.
Yesterday's inaugural function was chaired by Pu K. Sangthuama, Joint Director, School Education Department. Pu K. Laldingliana, Addl. Director gave a report on the technical aspects of the building and the programme ended with a vote of thanks from Pu Lalhmachhuana, Director, School Education Department.
