Union Agriculture Minister Mr.Sharad Pawar arrives Lengpui Airport today. He was recieved among others, by the Chief Minister Pu Lal Thanhawla at the airport where he was garlanded with a Mizo shawl besides offering a number of bouquet of flowers. Mr.Sharad Pawar was guided to a Jhum cultivation area near Lengpui, the purpose of his Mizoram visit, before proceeding to Aizawl.

Mr.Sharad Pawar was briefed by the official of the agriculture department about the system of jhum cultivation in Mizoram as he looked around the cultivators working in the jhum. and listen with amazing curiousity about the practises. The Chief Minister Pu Lal Thanhawla explained to him that his government have launched the New Land Use Policy to replace this primitive method of shifting cultivation with terrace farming and other modern method and provide the people with alternative sustainable source of income.

During his stay in Aizawl, Mr Sharad Pawar will have meeting with Autonomous District Councils leaders and government officials apart from his visit to Central AH & Vety College, Selesih, under Central Agriculture University.

Mr Pawar is accompanied by his private secretary Prashant Lokhande IAS, Secretary,GOI AH&Vety Mr Rudra Ganadharan, Addl Secretary GOI, AH&Vety AS Nanda, Commissioner, Horticulture,GOI Dr Gorak Singh and Mr Subhash Garh Jt Secretary,Agri,GOI.

Chief Minister was accompanied by H.Liansailova, Minister for Agriculture, NK Chakma, Minister of State for AH&Vety, KS Thanga, Parliamentary Secretary and Vanhela Pachuau, Chief Secretary and a hosts of officials from state and central government.
