Lunglei District witnessed a significant milestone yesterday with the inauguration of Child Friendly Police Corner at Lunglei Police Station and Child Friendly Waiting Room at Lunglei Special Court by the DIGP Southern Range, Pu Rajneesh Gupta, IPS. The Child Friendly Corners at the Police Station and the Special Court have been decked up with books, toys, TV and other entertainment facilities to provide a safe and calm atmosphere to juvenile delinquents and children.

Lunglei SP Pu C.Lalthanmawia & other officials, Lunglei Child Welfare Committee (CWC) members, NGOs and mediapersons were present at the inauguaration function held at the Excise & Narcotics Conference Hall.

Speaking at the inauguration function, the DIGP congratulated and thanked the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Lunglei Police and Lunglei Special Court for recognizing the special needs of juvenile delinquents and children, leading to a successful joint initiative in creating the Child Friendly Corners. Stressing that children are the real strength of a country, and the very foundation of society, he called upon the stakeholders to always put children first, and to ensure their welfare, dignity, freedom and protection from various societal evils. Stating that creation of the Child Friendly Police Corner was the just the beginning, the DIGP said that the Police would continue to introduce more initiatives to create a more inclusive and inviting atmosphere for children to have a trusting dialogue with Police officers, and lawyers involved. He also stated that suggestions and recommendations from the public are always welcome.

Pu Malsawmdawngzuala, Member CWC Lunglei & Addl Public Prosecutor also spoke about Juvenile Justice Act and Rules, and the importance of creating a Child Friendly Environment.
