22nd January, 2025 : Central Integrated Pest Management Centre, Aizawl organized the seed treatment campaign and awareness programme on safe and judicious use of pesticides at Bukpui, Kolasib District on 22.01.2025.

The programme included demonstration of seed treatment with Trichoderma viride and awareness programme on safe and judicious use of pesticides. 

Explained about the importance of seed treatment prior to sowing to protect seeds against pests and diseases, to prevent pest and diseases that attack crops during their early growth stage.

Also explained the  safe application of pesticides and precautions while purchasing, handling, preparing spray solution, spraying and after spraying chemical pesticides, pesticide poisoning and toxicity levels.

It was an interactive session and several doubts were cleared on adverse effects of excessive use of chemical pesticides, issue of residues on fruits and vegetables and the impact of pesticides on the environment and human health. They were sensitised about the judicious use of pesticides following good agricultural practices, safe handling of pesticides, thus enabling them to prevent the harmful effects on non-target organisms. Emphasis was laid on using insecticides only after the pest has reached its economic threshold level on the crop.
