Cleanliness Week Campaign  2019 for Champhai District  was officially concluded at the I&PR Auditorium, CHANEM Building Champhai yesterday. The Deputy Commissioner of Champhai, Dr Naveen Aggarwal, IAS, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and distributed awards for different categories under the Cleanliness Drive Competition.

Dr Naveen Aggarwal applauded the collective effort of the Mizo society for keeping the  surroundings clean and healthy. Mizoram is a beautiful and peaceful land, which outsiders become very fond of after visiting and witnessing the reality, he added. He also heartily lauded the good traffic manners and  the  local people's  approach towards  making a cleaner  society. Sharing his experiences in the state, he praised the shopkeepers and local inhabitants, who always kept their vicinity neat and clean. He also mentioned the beautification works  done by Biate and other towns and said that it gave immense pleasure to and won high admiration of visitors, who often felt as though they were in a beautiful foreign land. What further impressed him, Dr.Aggarwal said, was that even protesters who hit the streets picked up their mess once their demonstrations were over. He encouraged the people to keep up the good work and multiply the same wherever they went so that a clean and healthy society could be permanently established.
 
At the closing function, the various awards for different categories under the Cleanliness Competion 2019 were also distributed. Among the localities, Champhai Vengthlang North bagged first position, followed by  Hmunhmeltha and Kahrawt Veng. District Research Office, Champhai ranked first under Government Offices category, followed by District Court, Champhai and SDO, Champhai Power Sub-Division. Education Institutions were classified into three categories :-  Under  Primary School Category,  Govt.  Primary School-VI got first prize, followed by Govt. Tlangsam Primary School-II and  Govt.Primary School-I, Champhai.  PES Vengthlang emerged as the cleanest Middle School and next were Govt. Tlangsam Middle School and Govt. Vengthlang Middle School. Under the High School Category,  Pinehill Adventist Academy bagged first position, Govt. Champhai High School came second and Bethel Mission School bagged the third place. The Higher Secondary School Category  was topped by Champhai Higher Secondary School, followed by Champhai South Higher Secondary School and Govt. GM Higher Secondary School. Under Clean Restaurant Category, New Taste Restaurant, Venglai got first position, followed by BSP Restaurant, Vengthlang and Gilgal Restaurant, Venglai.

The closing function of Cleanliness Week was chaired by Pu K.Lalhmuakliana, DUDO Champhai in which different judges from assigned inspection teams gave their reports, saying that Champhai had drastically improved in keeping cleanliness a motto of life and urged the people to better their performance in the next competition.
