Commerce & Industries (C&I) Minister Dr R.Lalthangliana visited the site of proposed Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Kawrpuichhuah, Tlabung on the Indo-Bangladesh border in Lunglei District yesterday.
Flying in by helicopter from Aizawl, the Minister was accompanied by Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) Director (Project) Col Raman Kumar Sharma, Assistant Commissioner, Customs Pi Neetisha Verma, C&I Development Board Vice Chairman Pu C.Ramhluna, Secretary Pu P.Jawahar, Director Pu J.Hmingthanmawia, Addl Director Pu HD Lalrintluanga & others.
Addressing a public gathering at Kawrpuichhuah, the Commerce & Industries (C&I) Minister stated that the proposed ICP at Kawrpuichhuah has the potential to become a major trade corridor between India and Bangladesh. He urged Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) Director (Project) Col Raman Kumar Sharma to expedite the required formalities at their end so that construction work on the proposed ICP can be started. He also informed the gathering that developing border trade and related infrastructure is one of the main priorities of the Mizoram Government.
Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) Director (Project) Col Raman Kumar Sharma informed the gathering that 2 Consultants from his organization would be visiting Kawrpuichhuah on 17th December to assess and analyze the on ground situation. He also stated that ICP Kawrpuichhuah construction is expected to require 2-2.5 years.
The survey report for Kawrpuichhuah ICP was submitted by M/s Rites Ltd to the Union Home Ministry in 2005 and 224.99 bigha land has already been acquired for the purpose. On January 17,2020, the Mizoram PWD had submitted a detailed project report (DPR) amounting to Rs 230 crores to Union Ministry of External Affairs for the construction of a double lane concrete bridge over Kawrpui river to link Kawrpuichhuah with Bangladesh. The 18 kms stretch of Tlabung-Kawrpuichhuah Road has also been recently completed by ABCI Infrastructures Pvt Ltd. Another important component of the project, widening and repair of the 100kms road between Tlabung and Lunglei, the District capital is yet to start, with related land survey work already being completed.
