Today, Deputy Commissioner of Lawngtlai Pi Shashanka Ala, IAS kicked off the 2nd NECS Lai Cup 2019 - an Inter Branch Football and Volleyball Tournament under the Central Young Lai Association (CYLA) at Central YLA Playground, Lawngtlai.
Pi Shashanka Ala applauded the CYLA for organising the NECS Lai Cup for the second time which provides a platform for the able youths of Lawngtlai District. She encouraged the players to abstain from drugs, alcohol and tobacco and pick up sports instead and to become a good citizen.
The kick off function was chaired by CYLA Assistant General Secretary Pu Joseph Lalhmingthanga. CYLA Adviser Pu Thathluna Chinzah had an opening prayer while General Secretary Pu Jh Lalrindika gave the 2nd NECS Lai Cup report. There was a performance by singers and dancers and CYLA Treasurer Pu C. Hrangthianga proposed a vote of thanks followed by an opening football match between Lawngtlai Bethel Veng Branch and Vawmbuk Branch.
As per the CYLA GS report, NECS Lai Cup was organised for the first time in 2018 with the initiation of Pu Robert Romawia Royte. For this 2nd edition, NECS TT Royte Group contributed around Rs 6.3 lakhs, DC Lawngtlai contributed Rs 5 lakhs and many financial and material supports were also received.
In this 2nd NECS Lai Cup, 37 YLA branches will participate in football (men's) while 10 branches will participate in volleyball (women's). The football champions will receive a cash prize of Rupees one lakh with trophy and certificates, the runners up will receive a cash prize of Rupees fifty thousand with certificates and individual prizes will also be there. The volleyball champions will receive a cash prize of Rupees thirty thousand with trophy and certificates, the runners up will receive a cash prize of Rupees ten thousand with certificates and individual prizes will also be there.
Today's kick off was attended by MDCs of LADC, officers under state government and LADC, leaders of MJA, VC Association and NGOs, YLA members, students and general public.
