Deputy Commissioner of Lawngtlai District Pi Shashanka Ala, IAS inaugurated a 'Sakhi - One Stop Centre' established under the Ministry of Women and Child Development today.
Pi Shashanka Ala said OSC will be a blessing for women who were the victims of domestic, workplace or social harassment and asked the gathering to spread the news so that no woman will be left unattended.
Lawngtlai District Programme Officer (DPO) Pi Vanlalhruaii chaired the function and gave a brief report on OSC while the District Centre Administrator of the OSC J. Lalremkimi gave an introduction to the workers.
One Stop Centre is established to serve as a temporary shelter for women affected by any kind of harassment. It will provide emergency response and rescue services, medical assistance, psychological support and counselling, legal aid, food and shelter to those women in need. The Centre at Lawngtlai currently has nine workers and it can accommodate five persons at a time for five days and five nights. Arrangements will be made for those who need a shelter beyond five days at other homes where they can stay for a longer time.
