249/2026-2027

Lunglei, 22 July 2026: A meeting on the ongoing post-draft activities under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026 was convened today by the District Election Officer (DEO), Lunglei, Pi Navneet Mann, in her office chamber to review the progress of the revision process and discuss the conduct of claims and objections following the publication of the Draft Electoral Roll.

The meeting was attended by representatives of recognised political parties, YMA Sub-Headquarters Lunglei, MHIP Sub-Headquarters Lunglei, MUP Headquarters Lunglei, media personnel and election officials.

Addressing the meeting, the DEO stated that the post-draft phase is a crucial stage in ensuring that the electoral roll remains accurate, inclusive and free from errors. She informed the participants that notices have been issued to electors whose records fall under the categories of "No Mapping" and "Mapping with Discrepancies" based on the Draft Electoral Roll. She explained that "No Mapping" refers to electors whose records could not be linked with the SIR 2005 Electoral Roll, while "Mapping with Discrepancies" refers to electors whose records are linked with the SIR 2005 Electoral Roll but contain logical discrepancies. She further informed that, apart from these system-generated cases, notices have also been issued under the "Others" category for cases identified by the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) as doubtful and requiring verification.

Out of 98,808 electors included in the Draft Electoral Roll across the six Assembly Constituencies of Lunglei District, 21,549 notices have been issued for verification. The highest number of notices has been issued in 35-West Tuipui (7,484), followed by 34-Thorang (4,388), while the remaining Assembly Constituencies have also been covered as part of the verification process.

The DEO informed the meeting that Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) are currently conducting hearings for cases involving "No Mapping", "Mapping with Discrepancies" and other cases requiring verification. She stated that there are 13 prescribed documents for verification of "No Mapping" cases and four prescribed documents for "Other Discrepancies" cases. She requested electors who have received notices to attend the hearings on the scheduled date and time with the prescribed supporting documents to facilitate verification and ensure that every eligible voter is included in the electoral roll.

Pi Navneet Mann emphasised that these measures are being undertaken with utmost transparency and in strict accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India to enhance the accuracy and completeness of the electoral roll. She expressed her appreciation for the support and cooperation extended by political parties, civil society organisations, local bodies and the general public in the ongoing SIR activities, and appealed for their continued cooperation throughout the revision process. She reiterated that the objective of the Special Intensive Revision is to ensure that no eligible elector is left out while ineligible entries are removed, thereby maintaining a transparent, inclusive and error-free electoral roll.

Deputy District Election Officer Pi Zoramdini and Election Officer Pi Lalhruaitluangi also addressed the meeting, explaining the hearing process and highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts and continued support from all stakeholders. Representatives of YMA Sub-Headquarters and various political parties also shared their views and assured the election machinery of their full cooperation in ensuring the successful completion of the revision process.

It was also informed during the meeting that the Draft Electoral Roll contains the names only of those electors who submitted their Enumeration Forms (EFs). Eligible citizens who had not submitted their EFs or whose names do not appear in the Draft Electoral Roll may apply for inclusion by submitting Form 6 along with the prescribed Declaration Form on or before 4 August 2026. Applications for correction of particulars, shifting of residence, deletion of names and other modifications may also be submitted through the prescribed Forms 7 and 8 during the claims and objections period. The Final Electoral Roll is scheduled to be published on 6 September 2026.
