Aizawl, the 17th July 2020 : Deputy Chief Minister Pu Tawnluia today dedicated the first Pelican Crossing System in the state aimed at easing traffic management and pedestrian movement at crowded and busy junctions in Aizawl city to the people.

Speaking at the function held at the Conference Hall, Mizoram Assembly Annexe to mark the event Pu Tawnluia outlined the objectives of the Smart City Mission and spelt out the initiatives to be taken by Aizawl Smart City Ltd. to improve urban infrastructure and services in Aizawl to make it a sustainable city to meet the varied challenges posed by urbanization. Under the Smart City Mission, Aizawl Smart City Ltd. will undertake 78 projects, out of which 33 projects will be undertaken under the state’s contributory share, he said.

Deputy Chief Minister who holds the Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation portfolio highlighted that the needs of youths and youth development would be a focus areas besides improving various facets of urban life in Aizawl.

Pelican Crossing System has been installed at 8 busy junctions in the city and this initiative is expected to improve traffic management in Aizawl. Aizawl has earned the sobriquet ‘Non Honking City’ with clips of the efficient traffic management and the traffic etiquette of motorists earning accolades on social media platforms.

Minister of State for Sports & Youth Affairs Pu Robert Romawia Royte, Aizawl, MLAs – Pu Ramthanmawia, Pu C. Lalmuanpuia, Dr. Vanlaltanpuia, Dr. ZR Thiamsanga, Dr. K Pachhunga, Pu H. Biakzaua and Pu Zothantluanga; Pu PC. Lalhmingthanga, Mayor, Aizawl Municipal Corporation and Deputy Mayor Pu Lalringliana also attended today’s programme.
