The preparation for the first Election to Sinlung Hills Council is in full swing to ensure free and fair election under the peaceful condition on November 5 this year. In this connection, the District Election Officer Pu Vanlalngaihsaka was presiding over a meeting of Election Officials with the NGO's at the DC's Conference Hall, yesterday. At the meeting, the NGO's were represented by leaders of the Mizoram People's Forum(MPF), Mizoram Upa Pawl(MUP), Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl(MHIP) and  Hmar Inpui.

At the outset of the meeting general report on the preparedness and technical reports were given by Dy DEO Pu VL Hruaizela Khiangte and Election Officer Pu Lalfakzuala, respectively. This was followed by the report on surveillance and monitoring campaign recently done by a highly respected voluntary watchdog of Election in Mizoram, the MPF. During the meeting, the terms of engaging the NGO's informally at the election process to ensure neutrality, transparency and peaceful atmosphere were discussed at length. Once again, both the parties had agreed on working in close coordination as it was done in the last election. This means that MPF is again setting up monitoring and assisting booth near every polling booth which will be manned by their designated workers. And the MPF teams will also set out to visit all the constituent villages for Voter awareness campaign during the campaign period. During the meeting, the DEO had also informed the meeting that a paper ballot would be used instead of EVM. And that all the ballot box along with ballot papers had been already prepared.
