Serchhip the 5th July, 2024: A meeting of the District Level Steering Committee on the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign took place today at the Serchhip DC meeting hall chaired by Serchhip Deputy Commissioner Pu Paul L. Khuma.

Serchhip DC Pu Paul L. Khuma expressed his satisfaction upon learning that no child deaths due to diarrhea were recorded among children under five in the district during the 2023-2024 period. He stressed the importance of preventing deaths from treatable or preventable diseases and called for a comprehensive awareness campaign. He encouraged the committee members to devise clear, actionable plans and to ensure their effective implementation.

The STOP Diarrhoea Campaign, which traditionally lasted two weeks in previous years, has been extended to two months this year, running through July and August. The campaign spearheaded by the Health & Family Welfare Department, was launched on July 1, 2024, in Serchhip District.

The primary objective of the Stop Diarrhea Campaign is to prevent fatalities among children under five due to diarrhoea in India. During the 2023-2024 period, Mizoram reported one death of a child under five due to diarrhoea, but no such deaths occurred in Serchhip District. As part of the campaign, Oral Rehydration Solution and Zinc will be distributed to children under five. Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) will visit households across Serchhip District to provide these medications to targeted 5,297 children.

The meeting also called upon the stakeholder departments to formulate and intensify their action plans during the campaign period, ensuring comprehensive and coordinated efforts to combat diarrhoea and prevent fatalities caused by diarrhoea in the District.
