Serchhip District Level Steering Committee on Student Police Cadet held a meeting at their Chairman Pi Sangchhin Chinzah, district magistrate’s office chamber today.

Pi Sangchhin Chinzah, in her welcome and introduction speech said that the student police cadet initiatives is one of a good platform to mould a student to become a better citizens, and it is an opportunity for us to train them to serve.

Pu PC Laltanpuia, district Nodal Officer give a reports on the activities of the SPC before the committee. Marian High School is selected for the first time in the district, and N. Vanlaiphai High School is also recently selected for formation of SPC from the headquarters. Various activities have been undertaken so far from the beginning in Marian High School, such as; introduction of SPC to the students programme, Anti-Drugs Run, Signature Campaign in observance of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Drill practices, Awareness Campaign on Drug abuse, sexual offences and traffic rules, participation in Police Commemoration Day, training on First Aids, Response to disasters, etc so far. 

Today meeting discuss about selection of more schools, proprosals for further activities and participation of SPC Parade contingent at the Republic Day Parade, 2020, etc.

Student Police Cadet Programme takes it’s model from Kerala, where the project was launched on 2nd August, 2010 and is being successfully implemented in 130 government/government aided schools by Home and Education Departments of Kerala jointly. In 2011, at the 41st All India Police Science Congress Held at Dehradun, a resolution was passed that recommended all states of India to adopt the SPC project. Subsequently, on July, 21, 2018, the then Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh lauched the programme nationally.
