A meeting of the District Level Steering & Monitoring Committee on Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), Lawngtlai District was held today at the DC's Conference Hall, Lawngtlai under the chairmanship of Additional DC Pu B. Lalchhawntluanga, MCS.

The meeting was attended by officers and staff from Social Welfare Department, representative of the Chief Medical Officer, representatives of different banks and District Manager, Common Service Centre. Chairman Pu B. Lalchhawntluanga gave a welcome address and District Programme Officer Pi Vanlalhruaii talked about the problems faced regarding opening of bank accounts by beneficiaries settled at remote corners of the District. District Programme Coordinator F. Lalengvari gave a powerpoint presentation on PMMVY and the status of Lawngtlai District. Several matters for better and more successful implementation of the scheme were discussed.

PMMVY is a conditional cash transfer scheme for pregnant and lactating women of 19 years of age or above for the first live birth. It is implemented in India with effect from 1st January, 2017. The beneficiaries can receive Rs 5,000/- in three installments. To be eligible for this scheme, a pregnant woman has to report herself within 150 days to the nearest anganwadi centre and apply for the installments within 730 days (2 years) after pregnancy.

Since August 2018 upto October 2019, 1046 beneficiaries have received assistance under PMMVY in Lawngtlai District and Rs 41,45,000/- has been disbursed through direct benefit transfer to beneficiaries bank accounts in 3749 installments (1st, 2nd or 3rd).

Currently, Mizoram is the best performing state in North East and the 6th ranking state in the whole country under this scheme.
