Dr. Smt. Kamla was sworn in as the 12th Governor of Mizoram today. She was administered the Oath of Office and Secrecy by Justice B. K. Sharma, Judge, Gauhati High Court at a short and solemn function held at the Raj Bhawan today evening at 6 PM at the Durbar Hall. Earlier the Chief Secretary Smt. L. Tochhong read out the Warrant of Appointment.

The swearing in ceremony of the Governor was attended by the Chief Minister Shri Lal Thanhawla, Speaker of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly Shri Hiphei, various Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and MLAs including high ranking officials of the Central and State Governments.

The new Governor Dr. Smt. Kamla is a native of Rajasthan and was born at Gorir village under Tehsil Khetri of Jhunjhunu District of Rajastan on 12th January 1927. She completed her BA in Economics, Political Science & History from Maharaja College, Jaipur and MA in History from Banasthali Vidyapeeth, Rajasthan.

She has been a veteran politician for over fifty years. In 1954 at the young age of 27 she became the first woman Minister in Rajasthan and since then she has held various portfolios including Home, Education and Agriculture under various governments in Rajasthan. She has also been the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan.

She was the Governor of Tripura from 15th October 2009 to 26th November 2009 and thereafter the Governor of Gujarat from 27th November, 2009 to 6th July 2014. She holds the distinction of being the first lady Governor of any North Eastern state when she was appointed the Governor of Tripura in October 2009.

Earlier today, the former Governor of Mizoram Shri Vakkom Purushothaman was accorded a ceremonial farewell at the Airport by Chief Minister Shri Lal Thanhawla and some of the Ministers. The Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police and other senior officials were also present at the ceremonial farewell. Thereafter the Chief Minister officially received the Governor designate Dr. Smt. Kamla who was accorded a Ceremonial Guard of Honour at Lengpui Airport.
