Mizoram Governor Lt. Gen (Rtd) M.M. Lakhera PVSM, AVSM, VSM inaugurated this morning the "India and Election - Photo Exhibition" at Aijal Club to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee year of the Election Commission of India in the presence of Mr. Kishan Ratnani, IIS, Dy. Director, DAVP, Govt. of India and VIPs of Mizoram.

Governor commented that it is nice to see the worded history of Indian Election Commission which has played an important part in establishing democracy in India. He wished the Election Commission all success and glory in days ahead.

The Photo Exhibition is put up by the Election Commission of India in collaboration with DAVP, Ministry of I&B, Govt. of India. The Exhibition consist largely of archival photographs dating back to the first election of 1952-52 and provided the perspective of the 60 years of the Election Commission of India. The Exhibition started in New Delhi on 25th January, 2010 and is to be organised in all the States for a 'Better Participation for a Stronger Democracy'. The Exhibition in Mizoram is the fifth in North East, to be followed in Meghalaya and Tripura.

The Election Commission of India Photo Exhibition at Aijal Club is open for public on 2nd Oct, 2010 10:30AM - 5:00PM and 4th & 5th Oct 10:00AM - 5:00PM.

The first Election Commission of India was constituted on 25th January 1950. It is 60 years since the Commission has successfully contributed in making India the largest democracy in the world. So far the Commission had successfully implemented 15 general elections to the Lok Sabha and numerous state elections, the Presidential, Vice Presidential and the Rajya Sabha elections.
