225/2026-2027

Lunglei, 8 July 2026: Electoral Roll Observer Dr Lalhriatzuali Ralte, IAS, Secretary, Labour, Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department and Chief Executive Officer, Mizoram State Health Care Society, visited Lunglei today to review the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls, 2026.

A review meeting was held at the DC Conference Hall, Lunglei, attended by election officials, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), the District Media Nodal Officer (DMNO), and representatives of political parties and civil society organisations. Deputy District Election Officer Pi Zoramdini chaired the meeting, while Election Officer Pi Lalhruaitluangi presented the status of the draft electoral roll and the progress of SIR 2026 in the district.

Dr Lalhriatzuali Ralte reviewed the implementation of SIR 2026 and heard feedback from election officials, political parties and NGOs. She said the purpose of her visit was to assess the progress of the revision and convey important observations to the Election Commission of India (ECI). Noting that Lunglei is one of Mizoram's largest districts and shares an international border, she emphasised the need for extra vigilance during the revision process. She also appreciated the district administration's close coordination with political parties, Local and Village Councils and NGOs in ensuring a clean and accurate electoral roll.

The Observer urged all stakeholders to ensure that only eligible Indian citizens are included in the electoral roll, that all eligible persons aged 18 years and above are enrolled, and that no eligible voter is left out. She also encouraged greater public awareness and wider use of the Voter Helpline App.

During her visit, she also examined important SIR-related records and discussed measures for ensuring a correct and error-free electoral roll.

The Draft Electoral Roll for SIR 2026 was published on 4 July 2026. The six Assembly Constituencies of Lunglei District—Lunglei North, Lunglei East, Lunglei West, Lunglei South, Thorang and West Tuipui—have a total of 98,808 electors, comprising 48,918 male and 49,890 female voters, along with 478 service voters.

Applications for new enrolment, correction, shifting of residence and other updates to the electoral roll may be submitted until 4 August 2026, while the final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on 6 September 2026.
