As a part of the ongoing Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls, ECI appointed Electoral Roll Observer Dr Lalzirmawia Chhangte, IAS visited Lunglei District yesterday. He inspected polling stations, met with officials and held a meeting at the DC Conference Hall which was attended by officials, NGOs, political parties and members of the media. The meeting was chaired by Lunglei DC &DEO Pu V.Lalsangliana.

Addressing the gathering, Electoral Roll Observer, Dr Lalzirmawi Chhangte stated that free and fair election is the pillar of democracy, and for this, we need to maintain a clean and comprehensive electoral roll. He complimented the BLOs and other officials for their efficiency and attention to detail that he witnessed during his inspection, and also thanked the political parties and NGOs for their contribution in raising awareness and mobilizing citizens for the Summary Revision. He also urged those present to be proactive in motivating and educating those eligible to come forward to enroll themselves in the Electoral Roll.

Lunglei Election Officer Pu J.Miahlung gave a report on the main activities and progress in the ongoing Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls for Lunglei District. So far, 991 forms have been received in the District of which 713 are Form 6 (Application for Inclusion of Name in Electoral Roll for First time Voter OR on Shifting from One Constituency to Another Constituency), 117 are Form 7 (Application for Objecting Inclusion of Name of Other Person / Seeking Deletion of Own Name / Seeking Deletion of Any Other Person’s Name in Electoral Roll due to Death/Shifting), 104 are Form 8 (Application for Correction to Particulars Entered in Electoral Roll), and 57 are Form 8A (Application for Transposition of Entry in Electoral Roll).

The summary revision will go on till December 15 and the final electoral rolls would be published on January 20, 2021 (Wednesday).
