Aizawl, the 27th January 2022: 

A 2 days (27th & 28th January, 2022) Farmers Mela, jointly organized by Lunglei District Agriculture Office & Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Lunglei was inaugurated today by Deputy Commissioner Pu Kulothungan A at Rahsiveng Community Hall, Lunglei.

Agriculture and Allied Departments, Florists Association, KVK Lunglei, and various Agripreneurs set up stalls at the mela, showcasing their harvests and products which were made available for sale to the public. Apart from this, Lead Bank, Lunglei District has set up a stall where farmers and entrepreneurs can get their queries regarding banking, agri loans, Kissan credit card etc addressed by bankers. A veterinary clinic  with vaccination facilities has also been set up at the mela. The mela is open to the public till the evening of the 28th, with Covid-19 safety protocols strictly in place.

In his inaugural speech, Pu Kulothungan A stressed on the importance of effective coordination & synergy among key stakeholders viz Line Departments, Banks and farmers, and expressed hope the Farmers’ Mela would serve as a useful platform and communication channel for devising future agri projects and interventions in the District. He also spoke about the need to also focus on post harvest management, supply chain issues, ensuring backward and forward linkages, and the need to introduce farm mechanization and cooperative farming techniques in Mizoram. He called upon the farmers to be progressive and innovative, and to always seek out necessary assistance and guidance from the concerned Government Departments. The Deputy Commissioner also took the opportunity to thank the farming community for their invaluable contribution during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Officials of Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture, ATMA, KVK, Cooperation, Lead Bank, Fisheries, AH&Vety, I&PR, mediapersons and farmers were present at the inaugural.
