A ten day Workshop aimed at novice student film makers to introduce them to the technical aspects of film making was yesterday inaugurated by MZU Vice Chancellor Prof. K.R.S. Sambasiva Rao at the Department of Mass Communication. The workshop is being organised by Films Division (East Zone), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. The Workshop will also screen award winning films of the latest edition of Mumbai International Film Festival and also screen other award winning documentaries

Inaugurating the Workshop Prof. K.R.S. Sambasiva Rao remarked that films and documentaries are important influencers of public and private opinions and in today world films help educate and inform the public about issues and challenges on a host of topics, he said. He urged the participants to have ideas to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Mizoram through the Workshop and make films which will showcase Mizoram to the rest of the world. He spoke of the unique electoral processes and practices in Mizoram and the way elections are held peacefully without much fanfare and said that a film on this aspect of Mizoram could be made and this would help educate the rest of the country.

Films Division East Zone Director Shri Joshy Joseph expressed hope that the students and participants would benefit hugely from the 10 day workshop. He also narrated the success of a film ‘Tranquility’ which was made by participants of such a similar Workshop in Aizawl in 2014. Tranquilty he said has educated the country about traffic etiquette in Aizawl and the film was showcased at Mumbai Film Festival and has gone to win the hearts of millions of Indians. This has helped build a positive image of Mizoram and Mizo people, he added.

Film scripting, shooting, sound mixing and editing modules will form a part of the 10 day Workshop. In addition, award winning films of MIFF 2020 will also be screened. Two films will also be made during the workshop.

Similar Workshops have been organised by Films Division in 2014 at Aizawl and in 2016 at Lunglei in collaboration with Information & Public Relations Department. Such workshops have helped film makers develop and hone their skills.
