Representatives of 75 recognised Associations of the state government employees met at the ATI Auditorium, Aizawl on Tuesday to discuss about contributions from the monthly salary of all employees under the Government of Mizoram towards the fight against COVID-19. The meeting, after deliberating at length unanimously decided that Groups A, B and C category of employees would contribute 10 percent of basic pay while Group D employees would contribute 5% of basic pay from the month of May till December, 2020.

 

Presiding over the meeting, the Chief Secretary of Mizoram, Pu Lalnunmawia Chuaungo said that the economy of the state has been affected greatly by the prevailing pandemic and stated that the extent of damage it will cause to various sectors of the economy in the long run, is difficult to assess, presently. He said that the pandemic and consequent lockdown has slowed down the country's economy and the State has begun to face economic crisis due to drop in flow of funds from the Central Government. Taking into account the dire situation the State is facing at present and the impending adverse impact likely to be felt in future,  he urged all government employees to come together to fight against COVID-19.

 

The Chief Secretary appreciated the services rendered by the government servants, voluntary contributions from several Service Associations to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and the help and support extended to the poor and the needy. The true spirit of tlawmngaihna or selfless service towards others, is very much alive in this time of crisis, he added.
