Aizawl, November 14, 2023: Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, as a Chief Guest today inaugurated the three-day International Conference on Emerging Trends in Psychological Interventions (Health and Allied Sciences): Future Prospects and Challenges at MZU Auditorium hosted and organized by School of Paramedical Sciences, Mizoram University. Justice Nelson Sailo, Judge Gauhati High Court was the Guest of Honor.
In his inaugural address, Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati spoke of how mental health is declining at an alarming rate amid technological advancement, economic development, and advanced healthcare systems due to various scientific achievements. He pointed out that in the present-day scenario where many people who are otherwise physically fit are afflicted with all sorts of mental health-related problems, clinical psychology and other forms of interventions through psychology are the need of the hour and suggested that psychiatrists and Psychology experts are facing a tough challenge. He thanked the organizer and MZU for hosting the important event on the issue and wished the Psychology experts a grand success.
The other key speaker of the inaugural function, Justice Nelson Sailo, Judge, Gauhati High Court apprised the audience of the challenges faced by mentally disabled persons from the perspective of law and legal services. In this context, he spoke on the responsibility of psychologists and the important responsibilities of society as a whole. He also challenged the students of MZU to figure out how they can provide valuable services in this area and contribute to improving the mental health of the masses in the society where they live.
The inaugural function commenced with Dr Laxmi Narayna Rathore, Covenener, ICSMPS, MZU introducing the main objectives, the topics, and the timetable of the three-day event of the International Conference. This was followed by Prof. Zokaitluangi, Conference Director, ICSMPS, MZU who gave a welcome address. On behalf of the MZU, Prof Dibakar Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor, MZU also gave a short address. The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr M.Sandhyarani Devi, Organizing Secretary, ICSMPS, MZU.
