Aizawl, the 21st June 2023: Joining the celebrations of the 9th Edition of International Yoga Day across the world, the Yoga enthusiasts and practitioners in a large number were led by Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati and Lady Governor Dr Jayashree Kambhampati at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, in the state capital this morning. The event is simultaneously celebrated in various parts of the state in the hospitals, institutions and other places. The theme for this year's International Day of Yoga is ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.’

On this occasion, Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhapati gave his address with an opening remark that yoga is known all over the world. It is an important asset of India’s soft power. He spoke how Yoga is convenient to be practice anywhere with a minimal requirement and how efficient it is for improving one’s health and quality of life. In the context of Mizoram, he suggested, “In Mizoram, it is an unfortunate fact that we have high incidences of lifestyle diseases, such as diabetes, cancer, etc. In addition, a lot of our youth are suffering from anxiety and depression. I believe that Yoga may be a viable option as we attempt to mitigate these various physical and mental problems”.

The celebration program commenced with an welcome speech and opening remarks by Pi Esther Lal Ruatkimi, Principal Secretary, Health Department. Pu Ajay Choudhary, ADGP, who is also the Guest of Honour and Chief Secretary Dr Renu Sharma were the other speakers of the event.

The demonstration session on the occasion of the International Yoga Day were first practiced with the practitioners and the enthusiasts. Later on, the practitioners doing common Yoga protocol were joined by Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, Lady Governor Dr Jayashree Kambhampati, the dignitaries and other officials. The function concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr PC Lalramliana, Director, Directorate of AYUSH, Government of Mizoram.
