Aizawl, June 20, 2023: The Executive Committee on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Manipur, chaired by Pu H. Lalengmawia, Commissioner & Secretary, Home Department held a meeting at  Forensic Laboratory Conference Hall, MINECO today.

The meeting discussed how to implement the minutes of the High-Level Committee held on June 5, 2023, which deliberated relief for refugees from Manipur to Mizoram.

Meeting chairman Pu H. Lalengmawia apprised the committee about Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga's visit to New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister to discuss aid and assistance to the Internally Displaced Persons. He also reported the initiative of Pu Robert Romawia Royte, Minister of State on the same line. Deputy Commissioners of Aizawl, Kolasib and Saitual districts and Central YMA leaders presented their relief efforts and difficulties that needed to be overcome. They also suggested exploration of the available facilities of the state governments for housing the refugees instead of building temporary shelters amid the monsoon.

The meeting also discussed the need for proper treatment of patients among the refugees. Health Department officials reported on the health condition of the refugees and the treatments being administered to patients among the IDPs. The ICDS officials also apprised how nutrition is provided to refugee children.

The meeting also approved voluntary donations of relief funds for the refugees. The committee also welcomed the MLAs and government employees who can donate funds for the refugees. In this meeting, the School Education Department report depicted at least 1,500 refugee students to have been admitted to government schools in Mizoram. Even the issues being faced by Higher Education students are now being considered and undertaken at this point.

HLC resolution on the refugee registration system was discussed. As per the report, the Home Department and ICT Department are working closely together on this front. The Home Department is also taking up the task of preparing to form a District and Village Level Committee to deal with refugees.
