In an attempt to boost their morale and enthusiasm for the coming season of I-League football, the newly promoted team from 2nd Division League, the Governor of Mizoram Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Nirbhay Sharma invited the officials and players of Aizawl Football Club at The Raj Bhavan’s Circular Lawn over a cup of tea and shares words of encouragement, yesterday.

In his felicitating speech, the Governor lauded the enormous achievement made by the club and states the feat, a proud moment in the sports history of not only Mizoram but also for the entire North eastern region.  “It has been my conviction that boys and girls from North East India have what it takes to excel in all kinds of competitions. They are particularly good at sports in general and have a tremendous potential to go all the way up. I am very proud of you. You should not feel yourself as a small competitor even when you rub shoulders with the very best of Indian football professionals, try harder, don’t let failures in your path stop you from achieving your destiny. Set your feet firmly planted on the ground while you are flying high,” he said. He also encouraged the players to be the role models for the youth of Mizoram and North East India. Emphasizing the need for Mizoram to be more and more open up to the outside world to invite more opportunities and nurture progress in all spheres, he appealed to the players to become one of the shining ambassadors for Mizoram Opening up.

After the introduction of AFC senior players and Under-18 players, who are also to participate in the Under-18 I-league football by Mr Hmingthansanga who is both the Technical Director and Team Manager, and Mr Jahar Das, the Head Coach (Youth Development), Mr Robert Romawia Royte, President and CEO of the Club gave reports and highlighted its future projects.

On 6.1.2016, the Aizawl FC officials and players will depart from Lengpui Airport to Kolkata to play I-league. In their first match, they will play the defending I-league champion, Mohun Bagan at Salt Lake Stadium on 9.1.2016 (Saturday).
