The Governor graced the closing function of the first Mizoram Para Festival & Spot Landing Competition held at Brigade Field Bawngkawn this afternoon.

Appreciating the efforts of the organizers, the Governor said that paragliding is one of the most thrilling aerial sports which is adventurous and affordable. He said the Mizoram, which is blessed with nature’s bounties, has temperate climate throughout the year and is one of the most peaceful states has the potential to draw tourists to the state who look for solitude and a clean and fresh environment.

He said the one of the objectives of the festival is to promote tourism and said the state has framed the Draft Tourism Policy 2011 which envisages a comprehensive approach and aims at encouraging private sector participation for creation of quality tourism infrastructure.

The festival was jointly organized by the Tourism Department, 3 Dimension Adventures and Mizoram Aero Sports Association. About 38 paragliders from Mizoram, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Maharastra and even from Nepal and Sweden participated in the Festival.

Winners of the Para Gliding Competition are 1) Ram Prasad Gautam, Nepal Rs. 50,000 with Trophy; 2) Man Bahadur Chhetri, Nepal Rs. 30,000 with Trophy; 3. Bimal Adhikar, Nepal Rs. 20,000 with Trophy.
