Aizawl, the 20th May, 2025: Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), today graced the 9th Rising Day celebration of the Ephatha Special School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing as the Chief Guest. The event, organized by the Ephatha Society of Mizoram for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ESOMDHH), was held at College Veng, Aizawl.
Speaking at the 9th Rising Day celebration of Ephatha Special School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) extended his congratulations to the institution. He commended the Ephatha Society’s leadership, as well as the school’s teachers, staff and parents, for their committed efforts in reaching this significant milestone. Lauding the dedication of the teaching and support staff, the Governor stated, “Every day you bring creativity, patience and kindness into the classroom. You teach not only lessons, but also confidence and joy. Each child here is unique with their own gifts and talents".
Mizoram Governor also emphasized the crucial role that institutions like Ephatha Special School play in shaping a brighter future for children with hearing impairments in Mizoram. He also underlined the importance of family involvement in the development of children with special needs, noting that with love, encouragement and high expectations, such children can overcome challenges and achieve their goals. “Parents, as the most influential figures in a child's life, must ensure their children receive the education they deserve,” he added. The Governor also praised Ephatha Special School for its commitment to promoting inclusive education, a priority initiative supported by the government and described the school as a model institution in this field. He extented his support to the initiatives of the Ephatha Special School and urged all stakeholders to continue supporting and advancing its mission.
Earlier in the programme, Pi Saihmingthangi, President of ESOMDHH, delivered a welcome address. The event also featured a devotional message from Rev. Dr. H Vanlalruata and a report presentation by Pu Samuel R. Lalhmangaiha, Principal of the school. Pi Laldikkimi, Senior Adviser of ESOMDHH, also shared her remarks. The students showcased delightful and well-prepared special performances followed by a vote of thanks by Pu Lalbuatsaiha, Adviser to ESOMDHH.
As part of today's rising day celebration, awareness programme was also conducted in the afternoon, led by Pi Jenny Lalbiaktlingi, General Secretary of ESOMDHH.
Founded on May 11, 2016, the Ephatha Special School for Deaf and Hard of Hearing currently has one Principal, five teachers, one craft teacher and one volunteer, catering to 24 students from Class I to VIII. The school follows the Indian Sign Language (ISL) for instruction. The managing body, Ephatha Society of Mizoram for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ESOMDHH), was established on February 28, 2012, with a vision to support individuals with deaf and hard of hearing.
