Saitual, the 13th October 2022: Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati arrived at Saitual town this afternoon to begin his 2 days tour of the district.
The first official program, interaction with the head of offices in the district was held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner's Office. This official interaction was followed by interviews where the Governor discuss a wide range of topics with the leaders and representatives from the Churches, the NGOs, and the political parties.
The program began with the welcome address to the visiting head of state by Pu VL Hruaizela Khiangte, Deputy Commissioner. The first item of the program was a report of the district profile by the Deputy Commissioner. After this, Pu J.Lalmuankima, Superintendant of Police gave a presentation on the security scenario of Saitual District.
After congratulating the district officials for their exemplary achievement in the cleanliness initiatives which were acknowledged with the reward with national level awards. Governor then interacted with the officials on the status of how various welfare and social security schemes are being implemented in the district to benefit the poorer sections of the society. He also asked questions and interacted with officials on power supply, gas connection, water supply, MNREGA implementations, school and college education.
Governor raised queries on schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana(PMJJBY), PM Ujjwala Yojana(PMUY) scheme, etc,. These were responded to by the concerned officials and bankers with supporting figures. The Governor specifically requested the bankers to give more effort into generating awareness of the benefits of the schemes mentioned above. Governor himself stressed the benefits of these social security schemes that can be availed with an annual subscription for a small amount of money. He believed that any citizen would be willing to subscribe to these schemes if they are aware of these benefits. The problem now, according to his knowledge through his extensive interactions with various sections of society, is that the majority of the state population is still unaware of the existence of these schemes. He urged the officials and the bankers to do more in the awareness campaign.
As per the report by Pu VL Hruaizela Khiangte, Deputy Commissioner, Saitual District was created in the late months of 2018 and started to function as a full-fledged district in 2019. The district with a total area of 1757.34 sqkm is administered from the district headquarters at Saitual town. It has two sub-divisions and two RD Blocks. The district has a population of about 61108 at present. There are 40 settlements of towns and villages which included Saitual Town. At present, there are 23 government establishments at the district level.
The Deputy Commissioner briefed the Governor on the many potentials of this new functional district in the sector such as horticulture, agriculture, and eco-tourism. He then highlighted the ongoing projects and initiatives within the district which included major projects like the construction of DC Office Complex, and the constructions of NH 06 and NH 102B. He also reported the achievement made by Saitual District in the cleanliness initiatives wherein the district bagged the award for the cleanliest district in the state and one of its towns, Ngopa town received the second cleanliest town in the state(Category III).
As for the law and order condition and the security scenario, Pu J.Lalmuankima, SP, Saitual District reported that Saitual is largely peaceful and calm. There no reports of major crime incidents within the district in recent years. The police presence in the district is managed with a personnel strength 78 police personnel across two police stations and other smaller outposts.
