Aizawl, the 19th September 2022: Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati launches “Statewide adoption of Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” at the function held at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, today. To accelerate the progress in this initiative, he appealed to all sections of the society for donating food baskets as much-needed nutritional support to TB patients through the Nikshay Mitra programme. With the Governor and Dr R.Lalthangliana, Health Minister leading from the front adopting 20 patients and 10 patients respectively, there are 24 donors at present in the state.

In his inaugural address, he urged all the stakeholders to create mass awareness so that people must know that the prevention of TB disease is possible, its treatment is effective and accessible and that we must take great care that those suffering from the disease are not discriminated against. He stressed the importance of adopting of TB patients through an online platform called Nikshay. He urged all partners including co-operative societies, corporate, elected representatives, NGOs, public and private institutions, political parties and individuals to come forward and participated in this noble service. Dr R.Lalthangliana, Health Minister reiterated India’s commitment to end TB by 2025, five years ahead of the global targets of 2030. He also explained the target set for Mizoram based on the baseline year of 2015. As per the briefing he received from the health officials, Health Minister reported 2145 TB cases and 38 deaths due to TB in Mizoram during 2015. He explained that 80% reduction from this means 4 deaths due to TB and 90% reduction means that not more than 430 TB cases by 2025 to be declared Mizoram as TB Free State. He further elaborated the strategy for achieving this target and the progress of infrastructural strengthening to support this effort to make Mizoram a TB Free state by 2022. The inaugural function opened with an address by Smt Esther Lal Ruatkimi, Principal Secretary, H&FW. After his inaugural address, Governor handed over Food Baskets to the selected TB Patients to attend the programme. NGOs, Religious leaders and special invitees attended the function. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Eric Zomawia, MD, NHM, Mizoram.
