Aizawl, the 20th March 2023: Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati held a review meeting on power generation potential of hydroelectric power generation potential of the state with officials of the Power & Electricity Department, Government of Mizoram at the Raj Bhavan.

P&E Department was represented at the meeting by Pu H. Lalengmawia, Commissioner & Secretary, and Senior Engineers and officials of the department. Governor was first apprised of the hydroelectric power generation potential of the state, the available prepared DPRs, and other projects under investigation through a PowerPoint presentation. The discussion followed the presentation.

Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati shared his previous meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which the power potential of the state on hydroelectricity was discussed at length. Based on this, Governor advised the P&E Department to discuss the matter with the Ministry of Power, Government of India to fine-tune the available DPRs for presentation at the PMO. Governor also urged the P&E Department to explore the possibilities of tapping the resources of the big PSUs for implementing some of the proposed projects.

The state P&E officials first gave PowerPoint presentation on the 5 DPRs already prepared and available with the department - Kolodyne -II HEP(460 Mw), Tuival HEP(210 Mw), Bairabi Dam Project(80Mw), Tuirini HEP(24 Mw) and Tuivawl HEP(24 Mw). P&E officials also gave a presentation on 4 projects under investigation stage - Tuipui HEP, Tuichang HEP, Mat Sekawi HEP, and Tlawng HEP.

Presently, a major portion of the state electricity requirement is met by importing from outside i.e. AGBPP(NEEPCO), AGTCCP(NEEPCO), Baramura -IV(TPGL), Baramura -V(TPGL), and Palatana plants. Rs 400 crore(approx) is spent by the state annually for the purchase of Power from outside the state.

In this review meeting, the potential of Power generation from Solar Plants in the state was also discussed.
