Aizawl, the 10th June 2022: Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati visited the INDIAN COUNCIL OF AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH ICAR RESEARCH COMPLEX FOR N.E.H. REGION MIZORAM CENTRE, Kolasib this morning.
He inspected some laboratories, demonstration areas and other facilities inside the complex. He also graced the closing function of the two-day training cum input distribution on "Integrated farming system for livelihood security for tribal farmers of Mizoram" under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) as the Chief Guest.
At the ICAR Conference Hall, where the official programme was organised Governor addressed the crowd of 100 plus farmers who attended the two day's training. In this function, Governo Hari Babu Kambhampati released journals and publications of manuals prepared by ICAR Mizoram. After the feedback and sharings from the farmers, Governor addressed the gatherings.
Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati shared his delight in having visited ICAR Mizoram and expressed his satisfaction of hearing enthusiastic sharings and feedback from the farmers. He reiterated the need for exploring the huge potential the state has in Agriculture and the allied sector for the generation of the revenue and creation of livelihoods for the many farmers.
He congratulated ICAR for several successful demonstrations which resulted in the production of Mizoram-specific crops such as Zorin Bean( French bean of Mizoram variety), Puakzo( Popcorn of Mizoram variety) and Mimpui( Maize of Mizoram Variety). He also appreciated the effort made by ICAR Mizoram for their successful efforts in the identification and classification of several types of bird’s eye chilli, mushroom and fish. He also mentioned the centre's success in a demonstration of high-yielding rice varieties, water harvesting, animal husbandry, integrated farming, and many more.
The Governor highlighted that farmers are the backbone of our country and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has prioritized the agriculture sector and given massive importance to the farmers, as evident from the various Schemes, such as Soil Health Card, Soil Testing Laboratories, PM KISAN, doubling farmers’ income, etc. He mentioned that Self-sufficiency in food production is the first step towards a ‘Self-Reliant’ India urge to rededicate ourselves and do our best for the achievement of a more prosperous Mizoram, and a New India. He thanked the ICAR for the tireless efforts for the development of agriculture and allied sectors in the state.pr
Pu John LT Sanga, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kolasib also addressed the gatherings. He appreciated the works and achievements of the ICAR Mizoram Centre and mentioned that agriculture remains at the forefront in driving the economy of the country and several schemes are being run by the government which benefit the farming communities of the state.
The official function at ICAR Conference Hall commenced with the welcome address from Dr. S Doley, Joint Director, ICAR Mizoram Centre, Kolasib. The Centre's head continued with the detailed presentations of several achievements made by ICAR Mizoram. Pu Vanlalfaka Ralte, SP Kolasib and other district officials were also present at the venue.
During the event, several critical inputs were distributed to the farmers under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) and publications including two technical bulletin and two leaflets were released by the Chief Guest. Exhibition of ICAR activities and achievements was organized which was appreciated by the Chief Guest and farmers.
The inaugural session was concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Lalhruaipuii, Senior Scientist. After the official function was over Governor visited some of the facilities of ICAR Mizoram Centre. He also planted tree saplings to observe Green Mizoram Day 2022 on the occasion.
