Aizawl, the 17thNovember 2021 : Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati invited leaders of the state’s largest NGO – the Central YMA to Raj Bhawan where the leaders of the NGO apprised the Governor of the epochal role played by the YMA in building Mizoram and Mizo society.
Leaders of the Central YMA highlighted the multifarious tasks accomplished and being undertaken in various fields in association with various Departments and other stakeholders by the CYMA. During their eventful meeting, the leaders pointed to some recent proactive steps undertaken by the YMA such as – conservation of biodiversity and natural resources in alliance with Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department; protection of riverine resources with Fisheries Department; working with the PWD to ensure good roads across the state and the steps taken to improve quality education.
Regarding the refugees from Myanmar who are seeking refuge in the state due to the political upheaval, the leaders expressed anguish at the stance taken by the Central Government, in not looking into the issue with a humanitarian mind. The leaders requested the Governor to visit some of the refugee camps to see for himself the ground situation so that he can appraise the Central Government on the need to provide assistance to the Myanmarese refugees.
The leaders also requested the Governor to impress upon the Central Government to accord more importance to Mizoram given its remote location. They also informed the Governor of the steps taken for inclusion of Mizo language in the 8thSchedule and requested his help for making it a reality.
The Governor expressed his admiration for the noble causes espoused by the NGO and for their accomplishments towards bettering Mizo society. He said that he would look into all the matters where his intervention was requested to the best of his ability.
