Aizawl, the 30thOctober 2021 : Governor of Mizoram Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati has hailed the meeting between Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Pope Francis at the Vatican City on 30thOctober, 2021 as “a historic occasion”.

Observing the significance of the event, the Governor has said that the Prime Minister of the world’s largest democracy meeting the supreme head of the world’s largest Christian denomination is an occasion fit for the history books. The meeting of the Prime Minister of India and the Pope is a great step forward towards peace, harmony and inter-faith dialogue, he added.

Prime Minister Modi, through his work, has focused on removing human suffering as well as poverty. This is also what Pope Francis has tried to work on through his Papal tenure. Both leaders are also passionate about climate change, a topic that needs great bilateral and multilateral cooperation, the Governor said.

The Governor has remarked that India is a vibrant and inclusive democracy, where the Christian community has played a pivotal role in areas like politics, films, sports, business and the armed forces. It is worth noting that India has four (4) Christian Chief Ministers. 

He also noted that India is marching ahead on the path of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’ under the leadership of our Prime Minister, and that the fruits of development are reaching the poorest of the poor.
