A project report on ‘DELINEATION OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT ZONES(DUDZ)’ with a special reference to Landslide Risk and Slope Stability of heavily populated Aizawl Municipal Corporation(AMC) area and its surrounding was released by Dr. R.Lalthangliana, Minister, Commerce & Industries at the Directorate of Geology & Mineral Resources, yesterday. This critical project with the cost amounting to Rs 238 Lakh is funded in the ratio of 90 :10 by the North Eastern Council (NEC) and the Government of Mizoram.

The project with its detailed study receives appreciation from the Central Government which declares as one among the highly successful projects under NEC. On congratulating the achievement of the team of Geology & Mineral Resources for their Project which could be the first of its kind in the NE region, Dr R.Lalthangliana had strongly advocate the utilization of the project report by all the stake holders whether public or private. The project Report is deemed to the blueprints on safety for all the initiatives under the direct stakeholder such as the AMC, Land Revenue & Settlement, PWD, PHE, P&E, UD&PA and so on.

As per the Technical Report, the project team has covered 19 wards within the AMC and 7 more area near Aizawl City. The study has divided 175 Square Kilometre area of Aizawl City and its surrounding into 4124 geological facets based of the Satellite Data, Collateral Data and 15 parameters. These facets are then given a safety ratings from a scale of 10 unit viz Very Low Hazard Zone (VLH)<3, Low Hazard Zone(LH) 3.5-5,  Moderate Hazard Zone(MH) 5-6.5, High Hazard Zone(HH) 6.5-8 and Very High Hazard Zone(VHH)>10.
