Dated Tlabung, the 17th March 2021: Bangladesh is organising the birth centenary celebrations of "Father of the Nation" Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rehman, named as "Mujib Borsho", from 17th March 2020 to 16 December 2021.In honor of Mujib Borsho, and in solidarity with Bangladesh and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the Border Security Force (BSF) organized the 'Maitri Cycle Rally', which started on January 10, 2021 from the Border Out Post Panitar, 153 Battalion, BSF, 24 North Parganas District. The Maitri Cycle Rally, after a journey of 66 days that saw 23 cyclists traversing the entire 4097 kms stretch of the Indo-Bangladesh border across 5 states (West Bengal, Meghalaya, Assam, Tripura and Mizoram), culminated today at Border Out Post Silkor, 60 Battalion, Mizoram Frontier where a grand closing celebration was held on the banks of the Khawthlangtuipui River at Tlabung in Lunglei District.
High ranking officials of BSF led by Director General Shri Rakesh Asthana, as well as State police heads led by Shri SBK Singh, DGP Mizoram and Lunglei District officials attended this grand celebration. From the Bangladesh side, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel led by Md Zakir Hossain,Additional Director General,South East Region, Chattogram crossed the border into India to join in the celebrations.
Congratulating the successful cyclists and organizers of the Maitri Rally, Director General BSF Shri Rakesh Asthana stated that the rally was organized by BSF as a mark of respect to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rehman, and with the aim of strengthening Indo-Bangladesh relations and to create a sense of security among citizens living in the border areas. He also stated that the cyclists spread the message of the ill effects of drug abuse along their 4097 kms long journey. He thanked the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel led by Md Zakir Hossain,Additional Director General,South East Region,Chattogram for attending the celebration, and expressed hope that BSF and BGB would continue to enjoy a harmonious and productive working relationship in the years to come.
The celebration was marked by cultural programs showcasing the traditional dances of the region.
