Aizawl, the 17th March 2021 : Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Home Minister Shri Amit Shah reviewed the overall COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country given the recent rise in the number of positive cases from 6 states with Chief Ministers of various States and Administrators of UTs. Health Minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana attended the video conference meeting on behalf of Chief Minister Zoramthanga.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi reiterated that vaccination drive along with precautionary measures is the only way to move ahead with the pandemic and this must be accorded importance by all he added. He mentioned that India has set an example on dealing with the pandemic at the global level and its recovery rate of 96 percent is impressive. He pointed out that in the last one year the country has learnt and experienced a lot and with these past experiences, a new strategy to deal with the pandemic needs to be evolved. He said governments and the public need to be proactive in these matters and not be overconfident. He reiterated that the public needs to be reassured without any fear psychosis or panic mode. On testing he remarked that the percentage of RTPCR tests needs to be ramped up. He expressed his concerns at the increase of positive cases in 6 states and also on the high percentage of vaccine wastage in some states and said that avoidable wastage must be closely monitored.

Home Minister Shri Amit Shah also expressed his concerns in the recent spurt in the number of new positive cases from 6 states and said that travel history, contact tracing and isolation must be aggressively undertaken. He said that in the light of the development, a new strategy needs to be put in place.

Mizoram Health Minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana communicated the status of the overall COVID-19 situation in the state, steps taken for successful containment of the pandemic and the need to increase vaccine supply to the meeting.

Union Health Secretary Shri Rajesh Bhushan presented the recent trends of states that have registered an increase in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the last fortnight. He also presented the state of COVID-19 vaccination drive across the country.

Mizoram has so far tested 243889 samples, out of which 4442 were positive cases, 4417 cases have recovered and as of today there are still 15 active cases with 10 deaths since the pandemic. Mizoram’s Positivity Rate is 1.82 % against the country’s 4.99 % while its Recovery Rate is 99.44 % against the country’s rate of 96.54 %. The Mortality Rate of Mizoram stands at 0.22 % while this for the national level is 1.39 %.
