Dated Aizawl the 22nd March, 2024: On March 22nd, World Water Day was commemorated throughout the world, with several events taking place in Mizoram to honor this significant day. The main event was hosted at Vanapa Hall, Aizawl, in collaboration with the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA). Er. Lalhmingliani Hmar, Secretary of the PHED Department, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

This year, the theme "Water for Peace" was chosen, and Er. Lalhmingliani Hmar emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony among our essential resources, particularly water, which is indispensable for human survival and development. She urged everyone not to let conflicts arise due to water scarcity.

This year, several appreciation awards and competitions were organized. Awards were presented to individuals who showed dedication to water conservation, including Ms. C. Lalngaihsaki from Thaizawl, Mr. R. Lallianzela from Kepran, Mr. H. Lalramnghaka from Lamchhip, and Mr. Pachhunga from Thiak. Additionally, WATSAN committees were recognized for their outstanding performance, with Mualthuam ‘N’ WATSAN Committee receiving the Best Performing WATSAN Committee award. Following closely behind, Chhuanthar Tlangnuam claimed second place, while Buarpui WATSAN Committee and Vanchengte secured third place.

The celebration at Vanapa Hall was presided over by Er. F. Liantluanga, the Engineer-in-Chief, with Mr. Lalhmachhuana, the President of CYMA, delivering a speech. Mr. Lalrothanga, the Chief Engineer of PHED, also spoke on the theme. And the closing remarks were given by Er. H. Duhkima, Director of PMU PHED. The day commenced with a large rally within the city, which was conducted with Aizawl Thunder, whereas several events were organized in every district headquarters.

Furthermore, various competitions such as SMS Slogan, Jingle Making, 1-page comic design, Painting, and waste cleanup competition (Social Media Challenge) were held, engaging many participants from across the state.

World Water Day has been celebrated worldwide since 1993, each year focusing on a selected theme to highlight the importance of water. In Mizoram, this tradition has been observed since 2012.
