Aizawl; the 11th October,2021:As a part of the ongoing efforts to expand critical care facility in the State amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the Health Minister of Mizoram Dr R. Lalthangliana today inaugurated a newly established 10-bedded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ward at the State’s lone Dedicated COVID Hospital, ZMC, today.
This comes after the recent inauguration of another 10-bedded Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ward at Civil Hospital Aizawl on the 2nd October, and takes the total ICU beds in both hospitals combined to 59. 10 ICU beds each are at near completion stage at both hospitals; with a 4-bedded paediatric ICU and another 4-bedded Obstetric ICU also being readied at the Civil Hospital.
At his inaugural address, the Health Minister thanked the healthcare workers of Mizoram, who continue to be at the forefront of the fight against the pandemic, which has wreaked havoc in the state since March of last year. He also took the opportunity to thank the Finance Minister of Mizoram, CM Pu Zoramthanga for his continued guidance and support to the H&FW Department, as the State continues to battle record number of infections.
The newly established ICU Ward is located above the present ICU & SICU Wards, with one ICU Bed occupying an area of 250 sq feet. The ward is fitted with AC received from LG Company, with every bed equipped with an air mattress, oxygen pipeline fed through an in-house oxygen plant, cardiac monitor, suction machine, infusion/syringe pump, Philips ventilator received from Japan through the Ministry of H&FW, and other miscellaneous equipments. The Government of Mizoram spent Rs. 39 lakhs in setting up this newly established 10-bedded ICU.
MLA of the concerned area Prof F.Lalnunmawia also spoke at today’s program.
Today’s inaugural program was chaired by Health Secretary Pu R. Lalramnghaka, and technical report given by Dr. Lalnunmawii Sailo, HoD & Associate Professor, Anesthesiology, ZMC. ZMC Director Dr. John Zohmingthanga proposed a vote of thanks.
