Dated Serkhan, 12 June 2026: Mizoram Home Minister Shri K. Sapdanga today inaugurated the newly established Serkhan Police Outpost, a significant development aimed at strengthening law and order and enhancing public safety for the residents of Serkhan and its surrounding areas.
The Home Minister, addressing the gathering at the inauguration ceremony, stated that the Serkhan Police Outpost would play an important role in maintaining peace and security in the locality. He noted that despite the acute shortage of manpower, the Government had made concerted efforts to establish the outpost. He further stated that after dedicating the year 2025 as a year for promoting ‘Fitness’ within the Mizoram Police, the year 2026 is being observed as a year of ‘Discipline’. Sustainable progress, he said, requires the elimination of misunderstandings and the strengthening of mutual trust and cooperation. He also stressed the importance of transparency and integrity in policing and underscored the need to place greater emphasis on the health and well-being of police personnel.
Shri K. Sapdanga described the Police Outpost as an important institution that would serve both as an agency for enforcing laws and regulations and as a vital point of interaction between the police and the public. He encouraged the personnel posted at the outpost to carry out their duties with dedication, humility and a strong sense of public service so as to inspire confidence among the people.
The Home Minister further highlighted the successful collaboration between police personnel and voluntary organisations in combating drug trafficking across the state. He also referred to ongoing efforts to curb the illegal smuggling of areca nuts and expressed confidence that the Serkhan Police Outpost would become an effective instrument in strengthening such initiatives.
Shri K. Sapdanga was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour. This was followed by the unveiling of the inauguration plaque of the Police Outpost and the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Presenting a report on the establishment of the outpost, Shri H. Ramthlengliana, IGP (Hqrs), stated that the proposal for setting up a Police Outpost at Serkhan was first submitted in December 2020. Following a detailed assessment conducted by the Superintendent of Police, Kolasib, on 14 January 2021, a comprehensive report recommending the establishment of the outpost and outlining its necessity and utility was submitted. After completion of all necessary formalities, including identification of a suitable site, the Government of Mizoram issued a notification in February 2026 approving the establishment of the Serkhan Police Outpost.
The outpost will initially be staffed by five personnel comprising one Sub-Inspector, two Head Constables, one Constable and one Driver. It will cater to six villages namely: Serkhan, Lungdai, Lungmuat, Nisapui, Bukpui and North Chaltlang.

During the visit, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Shri B. Lalchhanzova informed that plans are underway to introduce a Pipeline Natural Gas (PNG) network that would serve Aizawl city and Mamit district. He stated that if the project progresses as planned, the pipeline is expected to reach Sihhmui by 2027.
The Minister further stated that upon completion of the expansion works at the Mualkhang Gas Bottling Plant, the facility is expected to handle approximately 7,500 LPG cylinders per day, significantly improving the supply of domestic cooking gas to consumers.
According to Shri Z. Lhungdim, Deputy General Manager, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), about 90 per cent of the boundary fencing and retaining wall construction has already been completed, while land development works have reached approximately 75 per cent completion.
