Dated the 5th February, 2025 : The 38^th Convocation of Indira Gandhi National Open University was held on 5th March 2025. Simulteniously, the Convocation function was held at IGNOU hqrs, New Delhi and at 39 Selected Regional Centres across the country. The main function was held at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Convention Centre IGNOU, Maidan Garhi New Delhi with Shri Dharmendra Pradhan Hon’ble Minister of Education, Govt. of India as Chief Guest.During this 38^th Convocation there are a total numbers of 313770 eligible candidates to receive hard earned Convocation Degrees and Certificates.

The Convocation at IGNOU Regional Centre Aizawl was held at its Convocation Hall with Prof.Thangchungnunga, Retired Professor, Mizoram University as Guest of Honour. The welcome address and Convocation report was given by Dr.S.R.Zonunthara Senior Regional Director. In his report, the Sr. Regional Director stated that under IGNOU Regional Centre Aizawl  1211 numbers of students are eligible to receive their Convocation Certificates and degrees. Giving the details of eligible candidates, he reported that 571 numbers are from Master Degree Programmes, 580 numbers are from Bachelors Degree Programmes, 25 numbers from Post Graduate Diplomas, 8 numbers from Diploma Programmes and 27 numbers from Certificate Courses. Dr. S.R.Zonunthara, in his report said that IGNOU Regional Centre has now can function more effectively and efficiently from its own building. He also reported that under IGNOU Regional Centre Aizawl all districts in Mizoram are covered having Learner Support Centre in Government Colleges and Institutions. Mentioning the current enrolment status of IGNOU, the Sr.Regional Director said that there are a number of 3093583 Enrolled students  in IGNOU which is renowned for its flexibility and innovative course contents. The Sr.Regional Director also gave a report on various extension activities taken by the Regional Centre during the last one year stressing upon the importance given to the various flagship programme of the Central Government like Viksit Bharat, Unnat Bharat Abbhyan, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan etc. and said that especially, planting trees at the Regional Centre campus was given great importance. He also said that other important Days like International Yoga Day, Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, International Womens Day, partition Horror day etc. were observed and celebrated  by the Regional Centre and on the Occasion of World Mental Health Day 2024 One day workshop on Mental Health was organized on 11^th October 2024 in collaboration with Aizawl traffic Police. He also reported that as part of extension activities the Regional Centre also participated in various Webinars and conducts Webinars on topics like ‘The Art of Innovation: Turning Creativity into Reality”, “ Health and Innovation for Viksit Bharat”. The Sr. Regional Director also said that under Swayam (Study webs of Active-Learning for Young Minds), an initiative launched by Ministry of Education, IGNOU is providing Channel Based Counselling in Regional languages for which Aizawl Regional Centre is also all set to provide Counselling in Mizo language. Addressing the successful students he said that they should be proud of their success under the premier Institution which has A++ UGC NAAC Accreditation. Ending his speech Dr.S.R. Zonunthara give thanks to all present in the convocation and wish the successful students success in their future endeavour. 

The Convocation Speech was delivered by the Guest of Honour Prof. Thangchungnunga. In his Speech he said that now IGNOU is not a stranger in Mizoram due to the tireless, ‘Go the extra mile’ attitude of the Sr.Regional Director and his team.He reiterated that IGNOU has done a lot in providing better education in the State of Mizoram, especially for the weaker section of the society and the white collar job workers who could not affort to avail formal education. He also said that IGNOU is a Central University and the biggest Open University in the world having Regional Centres in every states and Union Territories of India and in 25 overseas Countries. Speaking about the Courses offered by IGNOU, Prof.Thangchungnunga said that many of the Courses in offer at IGNOU are Innovative, upto-date and need based in structure. Expressing his appreciation to IGNOU in providing education at the doorstep of the learners he emphasise the need to update and upgrade each self in this fast changing world. Congratulating the Successful students he advises them, as they embark in a new world, to be strong, courageous, and have inquisitive but logical and positive approach in their life.

The Convocation Speech was followed by Distribution of Certificates to the Successful learners which was followed by Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr.VT.Jalajakumari, Regional Director IGNOU Regional Centre Aizawl. The Convocation function ended with photo session followed by refreshment .
