Aizawl the 24th November, 2025 : The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Aizawl District hereby issues this public notice for the information of all residents, drone operators, commercial entities, and government agencies regarding the regulation of drone operations under the Drone Rules, 2021, notified by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India.

As per the Drone Rules, 2021, the airspace of the country is classified into three zones-Green Zone, Yellow Zone, and Red Zone-each with specific operational requirements:

Green Zone

These are low-risk airspace areas where no prior permission is required for operating a drone up to the prescribed height limits. However, operators must ensure compliance with all general safety requirements, including registration of the drone (where applicable), adherence to operating altitude, and ensuring that operations do not endanger persons, property, or sensitive locations.

Yellow Zone

Yellow Zones are regulated airspace areas where drone operations require prior permission from the concerned aviation authorities.

Red Zone

Red Zones are highly restricted airspace where drone operations are not permitted under any circumstances unless explicitly approved by the Government of India. In Aizawl District, such restricted or sensitive zones include, but are not limited to:

  • Raj Bhavan,
  • Mizoram Legislative Assembly Complex,
  • Secretariat Complex,
  • Police Headquarters,
  • Assam Rifles/Defence Establishments,
  • Any other protected area notified by the Central or State Government.

All operators are strictly warned not to fly any drone in Red Zones without prior approval of the Government of India.

Violation of these provisions under the Drone Rules, 2021 and the Aircraft Act, 1934 shall attract stringent action. Unauthorized drone operations-particularly in restricted zones-may attract penalties of up to 1,00,000 (Rupees One Lakh).

The zoning map is available on the Digital Sky Platform. The general public is advised to operate drones responsibly and only within designated permissible areas.
