Dated Aizawl: the 09 October 2024: The Sports and Youth Services Department, Government of Mizoram organized Incentive Cash Award distribution programme for meritorious sportpersons at Dawrpui Multipurpose Hall on 9th October 2024. Shri Lalnghinglova Hmar, Hon'ble Minister, Sports and Youths Services, Govt of Mizoram graced the event as a chief guest and gave away the awards to the sportspersons.
State athletes who won medals at International, National and North East level events during 1st April 2023 to 31st March 2024 are felicitated at the event. Incentive Cash Award is distributed as per Incentive Cash Award Scheme 2022.
As per Incentive Cash Award Scheme 2022, the officials/coaches/managers of the medalist are given 25% of the amount received by the athletes. The total amount of money distributed in the year 2023-24 is Rs. 1,10,92,000.00 (Rupees one crore ten lakh ninety two thousand) only.
The total number of awardees are as follows:-
a) Athletes/Coach/Manager - 416 persons (Male – 276 and female – 131)
b) Contingent Officials - 09 persons
Cash incentives are distributed to medal winners of 15 sports discipline such as Badminton, Basketball, Belt Wrestling, Boxing, Football, Hockey, Sepaktakraw, Shooting, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling and Wushu.
In this function, Lalremsiami – Hockey, Jeremy Lalrinnunga – Weightlifting, Lalruatfela – Weightlifting and Cindy Lalruatpuii Colney – Football are International Level medal winners were felicitated. Miss Lalremsiami being a part of Indian Women Hockey Team who represented India in the International Games & Championship is the highest Incentive Cash Award recipient; she is felicitated with the Total cash awards of Rs. 14,50,000.
Insentive Cash Awards for Meritorious Sportsperson has been organised with the objective of:
(a) Ensuring outstanding sports persons of the state are given special recognition by giving incentive cash award to inspire other talented sports-person to emulate their feats/performance in all levels of competitions.
(b) to inculcate the spirit of discipline and determination amongst the athletes; and
(c) to inculcate a sense of being looked after having excelled in his/her chosen sports discipline.
