Aizawl, 9th October 2024: A mid-term review of various schemes and projects under the Irrigation & Water Resources Department (I&WRD) was held today at 11:00 am in the Committee Room of the department. The meeting was chaired by Pu V. Lalengmawia, Additional Secretary, I&WRD, with Pu PC Vanlalruata, Minister of I&WRD, as the Chief Guest.

In his speech, Pu PC Vanlalruata commented on the general public's misconception of associating the department with its former name, Minor Irrigation Department. He reflected on the department’s growth in both scope and structure and emphasized the importance of unity among the officers to ensure coordinated efforts in achieving the department's objectives.

The review meeting was attended by officers from the Administrative Department, the Office of the Chief Engineer, four Divisional Offices, and nine Sub-Divisional Offices.

Er. Lalrotluanga, Chief Engineer, I&WRD, provided an overview of the department’s current status in terms of manpower and efforts in irrigating cultivable land relative to the state’s potential. He highlighted the schemes and projects undertaken by the department and briefly explained each.

Reports on the National Hydrology Project and Springshed Management were presented by the Office of the Chief Engineer, followed by a comprehensive report on the implementation of various schemes by Aizawl Division and its two sub-divisions, as well as Champhai Division and its two sub-divisions.

The second session consisted of a comprehensive report by Lunglei Division and its four sub-divisions, followed by reports from Kolasib Division and its two sub-divisions. The Office of the Chief Engineer also presented a report on RMIS. Following the presentations, a discussion was held on the schemes, projects, and the way forward for the department.

The meeting concluded with remarks and a vote of thanks delivered by Superintending Engineer (W&D), Er. Beizawzi T. Azyu.
