Aizawl, the 17th June 2020: As per the announcement made by Union Sports Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju yesterday, Aizawl Sports Academy at RG Sports Complex is included in the list of 8 venues in the country that are being selected for setting up of Khelo India State Centre of Excellence.
The Department Officers meeting held under the chairmanship of Sports Minister Shri Robert Romawia Royte today decided to establish Aizawl Khelo India State Centre of Excellence at the sports centres comprising of RG Stadium Complex, R.Dengthuama Multipurpose Hall, MSSC Sports Hostel, Mualpui,Hawla Indoor Stadium,Aizawl Aquatic Centre and the facilities that are coming up within this area.
Shri Robert Romawia Royte has conveyed his sincere appreciation of the new initiatives made by the Union Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry under the able leadership of Shri Kiren Rijiju, Union Sports Minister for selecting Aizawl to be one among the first 8 centres of excellence as proposed earlier. Shri Robert Romawia Royte had apprised the meeting that with the assistance from the Central Government the initial focus will be on Boxing, Weightlifting and Judo. Later on, other disciplines will also beaccomodated in this centre.
