The 72nd Indian Republic Day was celebrated at Central YLA Playground, Lawngtlai this morning with the Deputy Commissioner Dr Andrew H. Vanlaldika, MCS as Chief Guest. To mark this day, the national tri-colour was also hoisted at every government institution and quarter at sunrise.

In the ceremonial function at CYLA playground, the Chief Guest Deputy Commissioner Dr Andrew H. Vanlaldika unfurled the national flag and acknowledged the guard of honour presented by Mizoram Police Armed Contingent. In his speech, the Deputy Commissioner applauded the good cooperation between government departments, district council, churches, media, NGOs and general public in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in particular and for development and progress of the District in general. He also highlighted various achievements of the District in the past year.

The Chief Guest distributed prizes for different categories of the Cleanliness Competition, 2020 organised by UD&PA Lawngtlai District. The results are as below :

1. Restaurants : 1).Zero 7 Restaurant & Diner, Bazar Veng, Lawngtlai, 2).B Cafe, Bazar Veng, Lawngtlai, 3).New Adalia, Bazar Veng, Lawngtlai & MB Restaurant, Chandmary, Lawngtlai

2. Government offices : 1).Land Resources, Soil & Water Conservation office, 2).PWD, Lawngtlai Division office, 3).District Agriculture Office

3. Educational Institutions (Secondary Section): 1).ANM School, Lawngtlai, 2).Govt. Lawngtlai College, 3).Govt. Region Higher Secondary School

4. Educational Institutions (High School Section) : 1).Govt. Region High School, 2).Govt College Veng High School, 3).Govt Southern Public High School

5. Educational Institutions (Elementary Section) : 1).Southern Standard Middle School, 2).Council Veng Primary School, 3).Bethel Middle School

6. Villages/Localities : 1).College Veng, 2).Electric Veng, 3).Chandmary

The ceremonial function was attended by LADC CEM incharge Pu T. Lalengmuana, Chairman Pu V. Zirsanga, Lawngtlai SP Pu DKS Singh, IPS, elected members of LADC, state and district council officials, ex-servicemen, leaders of NGOs and political parties and all recipients of prizes/awards. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, there were no ceremonial parade nor VIP’s At Home. As part of the celebration, the District Republic Day Celebration Committee presented a gift of Rs. 2,000/- each to District Hospital Lawngtlai, Christian Hospital Lawngtlai, Lairam Christian Medical Centre & Hospital, Lairam Motherless Home and District Jail.
