Lawngtlai, 10 June 2026: A meeting was held today at 10:00 AM between the District Election Officer (DEO), Lawngtlai, Shri Donny Lalruatsanga, and representatives of BSNL, the telecom service provider, regarding issues related to the toll-free helpline being used for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026.

During the meeting, the DEO stated that the toll-free helpline number 1950 is being used across the country for election-related services. However, difficulties have arisen in Lawngtlai District because both Lawngtlai and Siaha districts share the same STD code. As a result, calls made to the toll-free helpline are often not routed correctly, with some calls from Lawngtlai being directed to Siaha. He pointed out that this has caused inconvenience to both the public and the Election Office and requested BSNL officials to assist in resolving the issue.

The BSNL representatives acknowledged the problem and suggested that efforts be made to obtain a separate STD code for Lawngtlai District. They also recommended that the matter be formally communicated to the General Manager, BSNL, Aizawl, for necessary action.

The meeting concluded with a discussion on possible measures to ensure the smooth functioning of the election helpline service in the district.
